Thailand: Innocent 9-year-old killed in war against drugs [24 February 2003]

A 9-year-old boy was killed by 3 police officials who were posing as drug dealers. The boy's father was arrested by the officials when he sold them more than 3000 methamphetamine pills. As his mother sped away with him in their car, the police officers opened fire killing the boy on the spot.
The 'war on drugs' that was launched by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on February 1st 2003, has killed as many as 578 people since the day of announcement, an average of 38 people killed every day since the first of this month.
Although the officials have now been arrested, the 9-year-old they killed died without ever getting his chance to live. [Source: The Straits Times]
