Due to concerted efforts of the Embassy of Pakistan in United Arab Emirates (UAE), 86 children have been recovered and repatriated to Pakistan during the last one year. According to embassy, these children were illegally sent to the UAE by unscrupulous elements to work as camel jockeys under harsh conditions. The embassy arranged repatriation of 21 such children during the last week. The officials of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation and Edhi Foundation received them in Pakistan.
In order to curb the illegal business of human trafficking, the UAE government has affected stricter rules to regulate the work of camel jockeys in the popular sport of camel racing. Under the new regulations, children below 15 years of age and 45 kg weight are not allowed to be used as camel jockeys. Strict penalties, including imprisonment, have been laid down for any violation of this law.
