This project, which has been partly facilitated by Save the Children, is a chance for children from around the world, to participate in an international art exhibition. Communities of children are invited to discuss and write about their lives while also creating large-scale fabric murals, depicting their environments, their celebrations, their concerns, hopes and dreams for the future. Murals can vary in size and dimension. An average size would measure approximately 2 x 3 meters. Communities are asked to video and photograph the work in progress, if possible.
The exhibition, which will take place in Melbourne, Australia in February 2004, will be representative of children worldwide, in order to bring attention to what it is they wish to say to the rest of the world. Some areas, such as the Payatas dumpsite in the Philippines and the Kenyan slum of Kibera have had the children paint on fabric. Others have emailed photos and writing done by children on the streets of Calcutta and Bangladesh. [CRIN]
