The Child Labour Desk of Defence for Children International - International Secretariat has just published a book for children entitled "The World of Working Children". The book takes children through a journey to discover children's rights, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the concept and the possible dangers of child labour and the worst forms, ILO Convention 182 and the meaning of child participation.
Through colourful drawings and an attractive layout, the book provides information about the above issues and gradually encourages children's participation by supplying ideas of possible projects children may undertake to raise awareness on children's rights within their community. The book includes a section with games and learning activities to help children gain knowledge about their rights and the reality of working children.
The book is part of a 6-month project, which will be implemented in four countries (Ghana, Cameroon, Costa Rica and Colombia), with the collaboration of four national Sections. The project foresees the implementation of activities such as teacher's training on children's rights, child labour and child participation; children's reading of the book guided by teachers; and child-led activities with the objective of raising awareness about the lives
of many children worldwide. [Source: CRIN]
The publication is also available in French and Spanish.
