INDIA: Child Labourers Freed from Mill [News]

Seven child labourers from Bihar were freed from a handloom mill in Ramnathi village under Handia police circle area and one person was arrested in this connection, the District Magistrate R N Tripathi said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off, labour department officials raided the factory on Monday and recovered the seven children,he said. The children identified as Manoj Kumar, Vinod, Suraj, Ram Pravesh, Manoj Kumar, Lakhinder and Paltan, all hailing from Samastipur district of Bihar had been working in the mill for past one year. Tripathi said that its owner Rajaram Maurya was arrested and an FIR was lodged against him at Handia police station. The child labourers were taken to a NGO, Childline, where they were kept before being sent to their homes,he said adding their families were being told about them. The District Magistrate said that he has also ordered proper medical examination of the child labourers some of whom were suffering from malnutrition and Jaundice. [Source: Hindustan Times] ________
