Pakistan: NGO demands release of women, kids convicted under FCR [News]

The Juvenile Justice Network (JJN) plans a drive to write letters to government officials demanding the release of innocent women and children imprisoned under the Frontier Crime Regulations (FCR), according to a statement issued by JJN Coordinator Arshad Mahmood. National and international human rights activists and organisations will write letters to the president, the NWFP governor and other government officials urging them to release women and children imprisoned in various jails of the NWFP under the collective responsibilities clause of the FCR. The JJN expressed concern over the fact that children aged
between two and three years were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment. The statement said that 15 children aged under 10 were punished for the crimes allegedly committed by their fathers or other family members. According to the statement, Tahir Khan, 8, Iran Khan, 7, Mohammad, 3, and Zarmina, 2, were each sentenced to three years in jails. [Source: Daily Times]
