JUVENILE JUSTICE: The Indian System: From Welfare to Rights [book]

A book on juvenile justice in India was published in June 2004. Written by Dr. Ved Kumari, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Delhi, "Juvenile Justice System in India: From Welfare to Rights" contains an exhaustive overview of the historical, legislative, executive, and judicial processes relating to juvenile justice in India. It seeks to identify the parameters and constraints of the juvenile justice system in India and specifically to describe the nature, scope and structure of juvenile justice in India.

It also contains critical insights in the provisions of the newly enforced Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and a comparative analysis of provisions of earlier enactments for evolving a comprehensive and integrated juvenile justice system.

The author hopes that this book, published by the Indian Law Institute, will improve the understanding of concerned persons in the field of law, social work and child welfare and be useful to them in solving the problems in the field of juvenile justice system in India.

This book examines the historical developments, legislative and judicial processes and implementation pattern relating to the juvenile justice system in India. It aims to identify the specific stumbling blocks in the development of juvenile justice as a system and suggest measures for their removal. [Source: CRIN]
